We are Art, Lucie, Mimi (6) and Antonio (1).
We are fanatical about food. We take great pride in raising fresh, seasonal, flavorful, healthy, nutritious food. With our international cuisine backgrounds (Art is Greek, Lucie was raised in France and we both worked in the UK), we have a lot of fun cooking with our produce. We delight in redefining the true meaning of cooking from scratch. A simple Greek salad becomes a tapestry of activities stretching back a year: sow the oats to raise the hay to feed the cow to produce the milk to make the cheese to dice on crunchy cukes and juicy tomatoes just harvested from our field.
We are just as passionate about caring for our environment. This farm and the way we farm is our conscious attempt to participate in slowing down environmental degradation, on a small scale.
Other inhabitants at La Terra Vita include our soulful cow, Fortuna; our gentle heifer, Kalamata; our friendly steer, Flanders; our watchful barn cat, Santa; our flock of clucking hens and parading roosters; the pigs we raise for our meat. And all the wild creatures who time-share the farm with us: the elk that come and calve in the lower field, the deer that swipe the apples; the swallows, the quails, the owls, the turkeys, the bats, the frogs, the crawdads...
La Terra Vita is also our friends, neighbors and mentors who teach us, encourage us and help us; and our customers who are involved in stewarding this piece of land through their food choices. |
